Abstract

The paper proposes a control structure for a single-phase grid-connected PV system with
two control loops. The external voltage control loop maintains the voltage on the DC link at the
Maximum Power Point (MPP) of the solar panel. The output of the voltage controller is the
desired grid current amplitude. The phase angle of the current is synchronized with the grid
voltage using a Phase Locked Loop (PLL). In this paper, the SOGI-PLL structure is used to improve
the grid voltage phase angle capture performance. The inner current control loop uses a
predictive controller to ensure that the grid current always follows the reference value. The
control structure proposed in the paper always ensures that the entire power generated from
the solar panels is transmitted to the grid. The system simulation model is built on
Matlab/Simulink to investigate the operating points of the solar panel system and verify it with
the analyzed theory.
