Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the perceptions of English teachers at several universities in
Vietnam regarding communicative grammar teaching method, as well as the challenges they face in
implementing this teaching approach. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews at these
universities. Following the research process, the authors explored teachers' views on the role of teachers,
teaching objectives, preparations, methods, and techniques. While teachers shared common perspectives
on the role of teachers and necessary preparation, they expressed different opinions with respect to
objectives, methods, and techniques in integrating task-based communicative elements into grammar
lessons. They utilized both communicative grammar teaching and traditional approaches. Furthermore, the
study highlighted several significant challenges that hinder the effective implementation of
communicative grammar teaching methods.
