Keywords:
Pronoun, personal pronoun, demonstrative pronoun, interrogative pronoun, reflexive pronoun, pronominal form of address, honorific, address form.
Abstract
The article examines the formulation and explanation of the concept of
personal pronouns in the Vietnamese language. In contemporary Vietnam,
personal pronouns are referred to by various terms, including pronoun
characters, addressee pronouns, and personal pronouns. This variation in
terminology not only represents a difference in naming conventions but also
reflects differing conceptualizations. The objective of this article is to elucidate
the nature of pronouns, specifically personal pronouns, distinguish personal
pronouns from addressee pronouns in communicative contexts, and argue
against the practice of categorizing familial kinship terms used for address as
temporary pronouns.
