Abstract

The technological process of manufacturing 548B Cartridge case is being carried out with an assembly
structure between a 15 steel body and a Д16 aluminum alloy bottom. Such technology has the advantage
of being simple, but the disadvantage is that it requires many steps, the Cartridge case is heavy and difficult
to preserve in hot and humid tropical climates. This paper presents a technological solution for
manufacturing 548B Cartridge case from aluminum alloy. Combined extrusion and ironing technologies
are applied to forming detail from bar billets. Theoretical calculations are performed to design the
technological process. Deform 3D software is used to simulate the technological steps of the deformation
process. The obtained simulation results include the stress and strain field, and forces of the forming steps.
The maximum combined extrusion and ironing forces are 138 tons and 11 tons, respectively. It is found
that there are similarities between the theoretical calculation results and numerical simulations. The
results of the paper are the basis for the process of designing the technological process and forming
experiments for the 548B Cartridge case according to the new solution.
