Developing the NPL market in the banking system: Chinese experience and some policy implications for Vietnam

Abstract

Developing a bad debt market is one of the important solutions to mobilize resources from the financial sector, especially from foreign investors, to deal with bad debts in the banking system. As well as creating a mechanism to handle bad debt sustainability for the economy. However, Vietnam is currently in the process of preparing for this solution. With similarities to Vietnam's banking system structure, the cause of bad debt and the regulatory environment, the paper focuses on China's experience, drawing six policy implications for the development of the banking system.
