Productivity of Hybrid Combinations between Duroc or L19 Boars and F1 (L × Y) or F1 (Y × L) Sows in Vinh Phuc Province

Abstract

A research was carried out at the Animal Breeding Center and several livestock households in
Vinh Phuc province in order to evaluate reproductive, fattening performances of hybrid combinations
between Duroc or L19 boars and F1 (L × Y) or F1 (Y × L) sows. Semen quality of Duroc and L19 boars, 5
individuals per breed, was assessed. Four hybrid combinations, 120 sows and 100 fattening pigs per
combination, were evaluated based on reproductive and fattening performances. Results showed that
the semen quality of Duroc and L19 raised at the Animal Breeding Center in Vinh Phuc was relatively
good. F1 (L  × Y) and F1 (Y  × L) sows mated with Duroc or L19 boars had good reproductive
performances. The growth rate, FCR and lean meat of the hybrid combinations with Duroc were better
than  those with L19.
