Study on growth and development characteristics of some imported lily varieties grown at Haiphong in winter season 2006

Abstract

Flower production plays an important role in the Vietnamese agriculture in the last few years. The market demand for fresh flowers, includung lily, is increasing in terms of both quality and quantity. The experiment was carried out in winter season in Haiphong to evaluate the growth and development characteristics of 8 lily varieties imported from the Netherlands. The varieties were arranged in RCBD with plot size of 10 m2 and 3 replications. The results showed that the lily varieties grew and developed well, produced high flower yield under Haiphong ecological condition. Of these varieties, Sorbonne and Tiber are the best ones with the highest flower yield, quality and economic efficiency in comparison with the others. Two varieties - Stargazer and Starfighter - produced the lowest flower number and the highest disease incidence.
