Abstract

A case study was undertaken on mapping of soil erosion in Tam Nong district using remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) technology based on fomula Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), including five factors: Land cover (C); Rain fall (R), K factor map, Length Slope factor map (LS), Cultivatural method map (P). Based on the results, it is possible to determine the level and location of soil erosion areas. Therefore, it can help local government to make the best planning decision to reduce soil erosion. The results showed that Tam nong is a mountainous district, belonging to a semi-drought weather area. In this district, 2500 ha of land, accounting for 42% of upland area, has been faced with strong and very strong erosion. The area mainly belongs to three communes: Te Le, Tho Van and Di Nau.
