Abstract

The sector of household economics is one of the important components of the national economy, particularly the rural economy like Quynh Phu. In recent years, agricultural and household economics have had a dramatic change. Household economics have been depended much on the crop and livestock production which have been heavily affected by random factors. In this paper, the survey data conducted from three communes, methods of descriptive statistics, production frontier, and participatory assessment have been used. The findings are that more than 60% of farm households ranked crop and livestock production are the most important. In the crop production, rice is the most important crop while pig is for the livestock. There are positive changes in the share of income sources of households but these changes are still slow. Based on the analysis, a set of solutions for development of farm households has been drawn. They should not be separated of the process of agricultural and rural development. Solutions include (i) Technological and technique transfer to farmers including market information transfer; (ii) Planning of regions for commercial production; (iii) Improvement of off-farm activities; (iv) Capacity building for rural development; and (v) Encouragement of new collective organizations, same interest clubs. These solutions are implemented adequately, and then household economics of the district may have a vast change in the future
