Abstract

A study was carried out to investigate possibility of using locally produced feed for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) juveniles from fries of 1g/fish to fingerlings of 10g/fish. The experiment was designed with three types of locally produced feed and an imported feed from France as reference. Results showed that after 60 days, the survival rate of the fish fed locallyproduced and reference feeds were more than 90%. The locally produced feeds could be used for rearing rainbow trout from 1 gto 10 g/fish. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) of fishfed locally produced feeds ranged from 1.84 to 2.03, while the FCR of fish fed imported feed was 1.78. Theaverage daily gain (ADG, g/fish /day) of the fish fed locally produced feeds was relatively high (0.12 - 0.14) and compatative to the fish fed French feed (0.16). It was therefore concluded that locally produced feed with 49% protein could be used to replace feed imported from French for rainbow troutwithout reduced performance while saving about 30% of production cost
