There are 5 districts in Ha Tinh with the coastalarea of more than 103.5 thousand hectares, in which the major area is sandy soil. There are 6 thousand hectares of the potential coastal area to raise shrimp in brackish water. The main model of shrimp raising is extensive household farming. Besides, the model of intensive farming is increasing more and more. There are 179 aquacultural farms with the major part is shrimp raising in brackish water. The economic efficiency of raising shrimp in the coastal area depends on the raising model. On average of 1 hectare, farms with intensive farming have gross output (GO) reaching VND 81.6 million, being 4.08 times higher; value add (VA) is VND 31,78 million, being 2.30 times higher and mix income (MI) isVND 30,49 million, being 2.38 times higher than extensive household farming. From environment aspect, raising shrimp in the coastal area, especially intensive farming with large scale involves economic and environmental risks such as unsustainable shrimp productivity, deteriorated environment...  There are some main solutions including planning production,  farm development, applying advanced technology, managing and controlling producing process, education community, encouraging extension activities
