Reproduction performance of hybrid combinations between F1 (Landrace x Yorkshire), F1 (Yorkshire x Landrace) sows and Duroc, L19 boars
Abstract
This study was conducted at Cao Xa pig breeding farm (Livestock Breeding Bac Giang JSC). Lac Ve pig breeding farm (Dabaco company, Bac Ninh) and the experimental farm of the Agriculture - Forestry College (Viet Yen - Bac Giang) from 2007 to 2010 to evaluate the reproduction performance of hybrid combinations between F1(LY) and F1(YL) sows and Duroc, L19 boars.The experimental material included12 boars and 400 sows with 4 hybrid combinations D(LY), D(YL), L19(LY) and L19(YL). Each hybrid combination included 100 sows from the 1st to the 6th litter.Results showed that: F1(YL) sows had litter sizes better than F1(LY) sows, but F1(LY) sows had piglet weights higher than those produced by F1(YL) sows. Mating F1(LY) and F1(YL) using L19 boars resulted in better litter sizes compared to those produced using the Duroc boar. L19(YL) hybrid combination was the best performer in terms of litter sizes and D(LY) was the best in terms of piglet weights.
