Results of Rice Variety Trials at Da Bac District, Hoa Binh Province

Abstract

Da Bac is situated at the highest topographical level in the Hoa Binh province. Traditional farming practices employed by local farmers in Da Bac have led to degeneration of rice varieties,  therefore, reducing rice yield and affecting food security. In order to introduce new high yielding rice varieties, five open-pollinated varieties (DB5, DB6, HT1, DV108 and Khang Dan as control) and five hybrid varieties (VL-20, TH3-3, TH3-4, VL-24 and Boi Tap Son Thanh as control) were tested in 2005 summer season and 2006 spring cropping season at Muong Chieng and Tu Ly communes. The results indicated that all  pure-line varieties as well as hybrid varieties exhibited  high yield stability in the district of Da Bac
