Abstract

In recent years, extensive use of bath medicinal herbs by Red Yao in Sapa Lao Cai to prevent and treat disease has resulted in increasing scarcity of these materials. This study was aimed at contributing to sustainable development of the species.  Four species of bath medicinal plants,  Keng pi deng (Luculia pinceana Hook.); Ma gay khang (Derris sp.); Dang nai (Holboellia grandiflora Boiss.& Reut) and Tung die (Sambucus javanica Reinw. Ex Blume) were tested for vegetative propagation by stem cuttings with the following experimental factors: i) rooting medium,  ii) stem cutting position, iii) cutting length, iv) propagation season, v) light regime, and vi) transplanting time. Middle stem length of 15 cm placed in root medium of 50% sand + 50% rice husk ash during late July under natural light was found to be most suitable for propagation of all four species. The optimal transplanting time for Ma gay khang, Keng pi deng and Tung die and  Dang nai is 30 and 50 days after cutting , respectively
