Growth Rate and Meat Yield of Lai Sind, F1 (Brahman x Lai Sind) and F1 (Charolais x Lai Sind) Crossbred Cattle Fattened in Dak Lak Provinc

Abstract

A fattening experiment was conducted to investigate growth performance and meat yield of 15 male calves of lai Sind, F₁ (Brahman x lai Sind) and F₁ (Charolais x lai Sind) breeds, 5 calves each. The calves were 21 months old and 235.0 - 274.2 kg live weight at the commencement of the experiment. Results showed that F₁ (Charolais x lai Sind) calves had the highest ADG (917.78 g/head/day), followed by F₁ (Brahman x lai Sind) calves (791.10 g/head/day) and lai Sind calves being the lowest (657.78 g/head/day). The FCR of F₁ (Charolais x lai Sind) was 7,33 kg DM/kg LWG lower than that of F₁ (Brahman x lai Sind) (8.04 kg DM/kg LWG)  and lai Sind (9.48 kg DM/kg LWG). Sloughter parameters indicated that F₁ (Charolais x lai Sind) had significantly higher carcass and lean meat percentages (55.20 and 44.05%, respectively) as compared to those of F₁ (Brahman x lai Sind) (52.52 and 43.46%) and lai Sind (48.93 and 42.34%).
