Abstract

The effect of granulated fertilizer application in combination with Komix on growth and yield of corn cultivar LVN4 was investigated in a filed experiment at Hanoi University of Agriculture in two autumn cropping seasons of 2007 and 2008. The two-factor experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with foliar spray of Komix fertilizer being the main factor and granulated fertilizer the subfactor. The granulated fertilizer compound was manufactured in two forms: PVN 1 containing 0.79 g N; 0.79 g P2O5, and 0.79 g K2O and  PVN 2 containing 1.05 g N; 0.95 g P2O5 and 0.95 g K2O. Combined application resulted in increased yield components regarding number of grains per row and 1000 grain weight, consequently, actual yield was 8.6% higher in comparison with the control.  Granulated fertilizer application combined with of Komix spray had increased the yield by 6.9% with PVN1 and 10.7% with PVN2 in comparison with the control without Komix application. In addition, PVN2 application increased the yield by 23.9% in comparison with PVN1 and by 14.6%  in comparison with broadcast. The results confirmed that granulated compound fertilizer application at low level might resulted in nutrient deficit at later growth stage, thus foliar spray of Komix at this stage resulted in yield increase.
