Results of Evaluation some New Hybrid Rice Combination

Abstract

Thirteen new hybrid rice combinations (ten of three-line combinations introduced from Sichuan Institute of Atomic Energy, China and three of two-line combinations developed by the Institute of Agrobiology, Hanoi University of Agriculture) were evaluated in Vietnam condition during 2008. They showed short growth duration, low disease incidence under field conditions and yielded 7.6 to 8.6 tons/hectare and 4.8 - 5.5 tons/hectare in spring season and summer season, respectively. Among these, six combinations had yield higher than check variety (II you 838) (P==t 99%) in both cropping seasons. Three new hybrid rice varieties were selected, viz. II you 718, 08-25 and 08-26 which show superiority in grain yield, grain quality and insect and disease resistance in Vietnam condition. The superiority of II you 718 variety was verified in pilot demonstration in Namdinh, Thanhhoa, Nghean and Hanoi.
