Abstract

A study was undertaken to investigate behaviour of Phan Rang sheep raised in Dak Lak province. A total of 30 mature sheep were randomly selected for direct observation on their behaviour. It was found that sheep were in well organized flocks with a flock leader being a ram with the biggest body size, strongest sexual drive. A particular feature of a sheep flock was that if there were 2 or 3 ewes tied on grazing - and plot the whole flock were grazing around without going far away. Sheep could eat diverse vegetables. They grazed laboriously with a total daily eating time of  373.37 minutes, the high time of grazing being 7- 10 AM and 1- 4 PM.  The demand for water of sheep was low with a total daily drinking time of 3.96 minutes. On the average each sheep spent 578.44 minutes per day for rumination with the pinnacle of rumination being during 7 - 11 PM
