Furttier discussion on the occurrence period of Chữ Nôm

Abstract

     Based on the opinions of fomier scholars, the article points out the reason for existing different views on the occurrence period of Chữ Nôm. Basing on analysis of available historic and linguistic data, the article documents that some Chữ Nôm occuired since Eastern Han Dynasty, no later than ttie end of the 8th centuiy and early 9th century, Chữ Nôm has become a mature writing system.
