ROLE OF THE KATAKANA LETTERS IN THE FORMATION OF JAPANESE TERMS

Abstract

Katakana terms accounts for the number of increasingly more in Japanese language, especially in science and technology terminology.That are the terms is derived from foreign languages which are mostly from English, are transcribed in Katakana. Structure of Katakana terms is very diverse, can include Katakana, and also can be combined with Chinese letters (Kanji), Japanese letters (Hiragana). The Katakana terms cause some problems for users because of the mismatch between the original terms with transcribed terminology, both in phonetic as well as semantically. However, the use of Katakana letter to transcribe foreign terms in Japanese is undeniable advantages. Katakana is a Japanese tool to reach new scientific concepts quyckly and uniformly.
