Status of landscape and environment of Tinh Tam lake inside Hue citadel and proposal of restoration solutions
Abstract
Tinh Tam Lake is the largest lake inside Hue Citadel and also an important landmark in historical and cutural relics of Hue ancient capital recognized by UNESCO. However, now the lake is facing many negative impacts such as receiving wastes of surrounding residential areas and wastewater from sewages, becoming heavily shallow caused by sludge accumulation of so many years, changing into hypereutrophic status, degradation of landscape in the lake and in islands of the lake, etc. These negative impacts have lasted for many years. As a result, Tinh Tam lake has lost inherent landscape values and many environmental issues have appeared such as decreasing flow and drainage ability in flood season, smelling bad, etc. With these challenges, the paper reflected the current state of the lake in an overview and proposed necessary solutions aiming to eliminate the causes of polution and landscape degradation of the lake and to reestablish useful aquatic system for improvement of purification ability of the lake.
